Line & Shape by Ryan Harvey

I chose to use the photo looking down the hill toward my feet, because it is my personal favorite out of the photos I took for this project. I chose to take the photo on a hill near the beach during sunset, this gave me great lighting and the waves hitting the beach give a good line in my picture. The photos I took were very horizon based, this one differs greatly compared to the other three because there is no horizon, instead I used the water as one of my lines. I took this photo at an above point of view, I was looking down the hill at the water. I chose this point of view because it gave the picture more depth when I used the hill and water below, this also allowed my feet to act as leading lines to guide your eyes up through the photo. I did not use the rule of thirds in this photo, but I did use the edge of the frame, cropping, light, and leading lines to enhance the quality of this photo and make it appealing to the eye. This photograph is by far my favorite for the way I used the lines to lead the eyes through it, the feet lead your eyes up to the water, which guides your eyes across the photo. I took more photos with line and I do not have any with any real shape, I focused more on lines in my photos for this project.

I chose this photo of my guitar pick resting between the strings of my guitar, because I really like the way I composed and edited the photo. I chose to take this photo because I was sitting on the couch with my guitar laying across my lap and I though, "Hey! wouldn't this be a cool picture?" Also I liked the way the guitar strings would bring your eyes across the photo when choosing it for this project. The photos I took for this project were very different in their composition, this photo is the best composed due to the fact I have nice light levels and great textures. I took this from a bird's eye view, even though I am lower than my eyes and angled down at the guitar. The techniques I used are edge of frame, lighting, leading lines, and the rule of thirds. I used the strings on my guitar for leading lines, since they run through the entire photo, I also used light to get really nice lights, mids and darks. I had photos with bot Patterns & Textures, they are almost balanced in their subjects.
